Hair Extension Home Care For Beach Babes

Since we live in Southern California, it's important to know how to take care of your hair when it's warmer outside. Certain types of sunscreen can turn your hair a peachy color. Here are some tips on how to keep your hair extensions safe while using sunscreen.

Look for these ingredients in your sunscreen and AVOID them to keep your hair extensions looking great:

Avobenzone (Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane), an oil-soluble ingredient used in sunscreen to absorb UVA rays.

Octocrylene, a stabilizer as the Avobenzone degrades in light. They are often found together in sunscreen products.

"What happens if I use sunscreen with those ingredients?"

When these ingredients make contact with your hair extensions and are exposed to UV light, it causes the cells to break down during the Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS.) When the hair is rinsed in water, the electron particles from the minerals in the water attach to the hair, creating a reaction and turning the hair a peachy color. This color is VERY difficult to remove. In fact, we often have to replace the hair when this happens.
